Gall Laminating Company History

Everything started in the original owners basement in 1959. Equipment consisted of a hand pump hydraulic platen press to laminate news clippings sandwiched between two sheets of vinyl. The business name was N.L. Gall and stood for Nelson Lambert Gall.

Nelson died in 1962. His wife Martha Hartman Gall took over the business and changed the business name to M.H. Gall. In 1963 Martha retired from her fulltime job as a teacher but continued to work the laminating business.

The Imhoffs lived next door and Mrs. Imhoff was available to help out. Mr. Imhoff worked a full-time job and also helped out at times. This led the Imhoffs to purchase the business April 13, 1965 where it was moved to their basement. Business was booming now more than ever. Mr. Imhoff now worked full-time in the laminating business but more help was still needed.

The business was then moved to a larger house in 1969 to increase space. At this time an electrically operated hydraulic press replaced the manually operated press used until this point. A few more part-time workers were hired as well.

Then in 1976 the business was on the move again, this time to an oversized garage on Grant Street in Lancaster City. The building was leased for 10 years to the company and provided the extra space needed.

Jay Horning, present owner, worked part-time while attending college and later became a full-time employee in 1980. More equipment was added and soon employees were crawling over tables and literally running out of space as the 10 year lease came to an end.

In 1986 the business was moved to Ann Street where Kaufhold Machine Shop had been located. Again, more equipment was added to the business.

Tabbing equipment was added to our already growing business in 1989.

The business was purchased by Jay in 1994 from the Imhoffs when they retired.
